Ice Dogs and Bears earn home wins over West Bend

The West Bend Bombers finished their exhibition schedule this weekend with losses on the road to Fox Citices (7-6 in OT) and Fond du Lac (5-3). The Bombers will play in the Great Lakes Hockey League opener next Saturday against Monroe in West Bend.

The Bombers had an early lead over Fox Cities Friday night, and that got bigger early in the third period as Dan Shilts netted a goal just 16 seconds into the final frame to make the score 5-2 in favor of the Ice Dogs.

Fox Cities responded, though. The team pulled to within one, before West Bend scored again. The Ice Dogs kept on it though, and eventually netted the tying goal with one second left. The team finished it up with a Nick Henkemeyer overtime winner 24 seconds into overtime.

West Bend earned an early lead again Saturday, but Fond du Lac responded with three in the second period, and held on in the end, including an empty netter right before time expired.
